Can foreigners start NISA / iDeCo in Japan? Thinking about the future

# 助け合い 👁 87♥ 10💬 2
With prices climbing and the yen being the yen, I've started wondering about saving/investing while I'm here. Heard about NISA (tax-free investment) and iDeCo but wasn't sure if foreign residents can use them. From what I gather, yes if you have a 在留 + My Number + a Japanese brokerage account. But: ・what happens to NISA/iDeCo if you leave Japan? ・is iDeCo locked until 60? Anyone here actually using these as a foreign resident? Would love real experiences before I jump in. Not financial advice, just curious 📈

I use NISA (楽天証券) as a foreign resident — opening needs 在留 + My Number. Heads up: if you LEAVE Japan you generally have to close/sell NISA, and iDeCo is locked till 60 (hard to withdraw early). Great while you're here long-term, but factor in your plans.

NISAは引っ越し(出国)時の扱いが要注意。長く日本にいる予定なら強い味方だけど、数年で帰る人はよく考えてからが良いね。
